Val Kilmer (65), the ‘Top Gun’, ‘Batman Forever’ and the ‘Doors’ actor, has died of respiratory failure resulting from pneumonia, reports said quoting his daughter, Mercedes Kilmer. 

In 2014, Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer and later recovered.

Born in Los Angeles in 1959, Kilmer began as a stage actor, and his big break came in 1984 when he received top billing in the spy comedy Top Secret!. 

Two years later, he played alongside Tom Cruise in Top Gun, and in the 1990s he became one of the highest-paid Hollywood stars. Among other lead roles, he portrayed Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone’s film The Doors, based on the story about the band of the same name, and in 1995 he starred in Batman Forever.
