The United States has voiced strong support for the Nepali people’s pursuit of transparent and accountable governance, underscoring its importance for strengthening democracy as Nepal heads toward national elections.

In a Constitution Day message, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio extended condolences to families affected by recent protests, saying the United States “joins the people of Nepal in mourning the loss of life” and remains committed to supporting their democratic aspirations.

Rubio stressed that Nepal’s future lies in inclusive prosperity, economic growth, and regional security. He pointed to the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact as a major step in boosting transportation and energy infrastructure, creating jobs, and fostering long-term development. The initiative, he said, would not only benefit Nepalis but also deepen U.S.-Nepal relations and expand opportunities for American businesses.

Offering congratulations on Constitution Day, Rubio said Washington looks forward to continued partnership with Kathmandu in advancing regional stability and contributing to a safer, more secure world.
