The National Youth Association Nepal has criticized the government’s move to restrict the foreign travel of former prime minister and UML chair KP Sharma Oli.
Issuing a statement on Tuesday, Association President Kshitiz Thebe said the decision was “based on prejudice and political revenge” rather than facts.
“The recommendation of the Gen-Z probe commission to block passports without evidence reflects bias and suspicion,” the statement read. The youth wing argued that declaring people guilty before investigation is unacceptable, though it expressed readiness to cooperate with lawful inquiries.
The Association also opposed legal action against UML Politburo member Mahesh Basnet, describing it as another act of political retaliation.
The government’s decision follows Sunday’s recommendation by a judicial commission investigating the handling of the Gen-Z protests, which suggested barring five individuals, including Oli, from traveling abroad.
