US President Donald Trump has filed a defamation lawsuit against the Wall Street Journal, its owner Rupert Murdoch, and two of its journalists.

The case is based on a recent article published by the newspaper. The article claimed that in 2003, Trump had written a birthday greeting to Jeffrey Epstein, a controversial figure later convicted of sex crimes involving minors.

Trump’s lawyer, Alejandro Brito, stated in the lawsuit that the Wall Street Journal published the story in a biased and harmful way, without properly verifying the facts. He also said the newspaper had been warned in advance that the information was false and should not be published.

Jeffrey Epstein was first arrested in 2006 on charges of involving underage girls in prostitution. He was arrested again in 2019 during Trump’s first term as president and later died by suicide in jail.

The article suggested Trump had a close relationship with Epstein in the past, which included sending him a letter on his 50th birthday — something Trump strongly denies.
