Gyanendra Bahadur Shahi has said that his party decided to file candidacy for the post of Deputy Speaker only after receiving a commitment of support from Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Ravi Lamichhane.

Presenting his candidacy during the House of Representatives meeting held on Friday, he stated that the post of Deputy Speaker was neither a priority nor a major interest for his party.

He said, “The position of Deputy Speaker was not and is not our priority. However, after receiving a proposal from the largest party in Parliament and considering the possibility of political alignment between older parties and those like us seeking change, we decided to move forward with the candidacy. We filed our candidacy after receiving assurance of support from the party chair.”

Shahi further remarked that although parties labeled as “old” and “new” may have different signboards, their policy principles and ideological roots appear to be the same.

“Our candidacy today has clearly defined political lines. Although the signboards of parties labeled as old and new may differ, it is evident that their policy principles and ideological roots are connected at the same place. In Parliament, role matters more than numbers. Numbers are only useful for sustaining power and maintaining political control,” he said.

He also added that just as everything is considered fair in war and love, in politics too, promises and betrayal seem to be justified.
