At a time when the ruling coalition under his leadership is performing well below par and when it is coming under attacks from within and beyond for the same, the chief executive appears quite busy squandering his energies instead of focusing on improving performance.

Addressing the concluding session of the second conference of the South Asian Farmers Federation in Kathmandu on Tuesday, PM Oli said forces that did not even have five percent of popular votes were trying to seize power.

He said such forces were trying to foment anarchy and bring regression back, amid calls from a section of the key ruling coalition partner, Nepali Congress, to focus on his performance instead of "road shows" and claims from Pushpa Kamal Dahal, chair of the main opposition, CPN (Maoist Center) , that the current government won’t last long.

Some people, who benefited from a feudal system in the past, are again trying to bring back the old system, Oli went on. “But they do not have popular support to do so. Such people are about five percent. On the strength of five percent, they want to capture power.”

Their tendencies have given a certain indication, he said, pointing out at anarchy seen in different places.

He said: At last, the election is the only way, there is no other alternative.  Even if they manage to capture power, they have to contest elections.  The polls will sideline them again because they are not popular elements.

”Neither they have made any contribution, nor they have a vision for nation-building. They don’t have a destination,” Oli said. These elements are fomenting discontent, Oli said, stressing the need to move ahead in a positive way with a positive mindset.
