Teachers in Kathmandu, who have been protesting, have announced a nationwide educational strike. The strike, led by the Nepal Teachers' Association, will begin on Monday.
The president of the association, Lakshmi Kishor Subedi, and General Secretary Tulabahadur Thapa issued a statement calling on all schools across the country to shut down and join the strike. The teachers are demanding the promulgation of the School Education Act through the Federal Parliament.
The association has urged teachers to avoid participating in activities like exam paper checking, result publication, training workshops, seminars and educational trips during the strike.
As a result of the strike, school enrollment campaigns have been disrupted. Furthermore, the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) paper checking, scheduled to begin this week, is likely to be delayed. This could delay the plan to publish the results in the first week of July.
