Talks between the government and protesting public transport operators ended without any agreement on Monday at the Ministry of Home Affairs in Singha Durbar.

According to Bharat Nepal, General Secretary of the Central Federation of Public Transport, the first round of talks didn’t reach any clear outcome.

“We shared our demands with the Home Minister. We asked to cancel Gandaki Province’s law that goes against federal law. But the Home Minister said the issue needs to be discussed with the provincial government. So, we’ve decided not to stop our protest,” he said.

After Gandaki Province introduced a law legalizing ride-sharing services, public transport vehicles across the country have been kept off the roads, following a protest called by the Public Transport Protection Struggle Committee. This has directly affected regular passengers.
