India has recorded a sharp increase in Covid-19 cases, with the total number of active cases crossing the 4,000 mark on Tuesday. This rise happened just three days after the active case count crossed 3,000. Most of the new cases have been reported from Kerala, Maharashtra, and Gujarat.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Kerala reported the highest number of new cases in the last 24 hours, with 1,416 infections. Maharashtra followed with 494 new cases, and Gujarat recorded 397. Other states like Delhi (393), West Bengal (372), Karnataka (311), Tamil Nadu (215), and Uttar Pradesh (138) also reported a noticeable rise in cases.
In the past 24 hours, India reported five Covid-19 related deaths. The deaths included an 80-year-old man in Kerala, a 70-year-old and a 73-year-old woman in Maharashtra, a 69-year-old woman in Tamil Nadu, and a 43-year-old woman in West Bengal. Most of the patients had underlying health conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart or kidney issues.
Despite the rise in cases, 512 people recovered and were discharged from hospitals within the same time frame. Just a day earlier, on Monday, the total number of active Covid-19 cases in the country stood at 3,961. Health officials are now closely monitoring the situation, especially as multiple states are reporting triple-digit daily infections.
Authorities have advised people to remain cautious, follow health guidelines, and get vaccinated if they haven’t already, as India continues to deal with the changing nature of the Covid-19 virus.
