Severe burns
On March 28, the state-owned Herbs Production and Processing Company, well-known for brands like Sancho (meaning remedy, relief), a herbal formula for common cold and cough, suffered severe burns and went on sickbed. Apparently, medicine production was out of the question in the immediate aftermath.
During a conversation with Nepal Verified News on April 2, Dharma Lal Nepal, information officer of the company, shared the extent of the damage the 43-year-old company had suffered in the arson during the protest of pro-royalist forces on March 28.
At that time, Nepal said the lab lodged in an old building was gone, along with the equipment (they were not insured), causing an estimated loss of
Rs 280 million
The godown remained intact (it was insured), by the way.
Subsequently, the company approached the line ministry—the Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation—to provide them land as well as some furniture to enable them to build temporary structures for the resumption of production.
Even if that was not possible, Nepal had asked for disbursement of Rs 100 million for the resumption of production operations (manually).
About one-and-a-half-months later, how’s the survivor of severe burns been doing?
Production resumes
Nepal, the information officer, shared a piece of good news: We have already resumed production, mainly of Sancho, manually. There’s been no problem in clearing the stocks of Sancho and other remedies.
He said: The forest ministry has forwarded our request for budget for the procurement of equipment and reconstruction of the lab to the Ministry of Finance. For manufacturing Sancho and other popular remedies, we need the lab and the equipment. We are hopeful.
