The Nepal Bar Association has come out strongly against President Ram Chandra Paudel’s decision to dissolve Parliament, describing it as unconstitutional and authoritarian.
The move was made late Friday night on the recommendation of interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki. In its statement, the Bar said the step undermines constitutional supremacy and the rule of law.
It warned that dissolving the House goes against the spirit of Nepal’s democratic struggle and risks reversing hard-earned achievements like republicanism, federalism, and inclusiveness.
The Bar also reminded that past Supreme Court rulings had reinstated Parliament, making this dissolution unjustifiable.
Calling it a regressive act, the Association demanded the immediate restoration of democratic order and urged all stakeholders to protect the values enshrined in the constitution.
