As of April 27, 2025, a total of 987 climbers from 105 groups have taken permission for climbing different peaks in Nepal this spring season (March-May), Liladhar Awasthi, director of the Department of Tourism, informed.
Of the 105 groups, 41 have acquired permission for climbing the Sagarmatha (8848.86 meters), the world’s highest peak.
Thus far this season (since March), the department has collected Rs 684.7 million in royalties by issuing climbing permits, he said: The Sagarmatha alone accounts for Rs 59.55 lakh of the revenue pie.
In terms of the nationality of those getting climbing permits, the largest number is from the USA, followed by China and India.
In the case of the Sagarmatha, the route up to Camp III is ready and work for readying the route up to Camp IV has begun from April 27.
