A day after her arrest on the charge of cooperative fraud and organized crime, the Kathmandu district court has granted police the permission to conduct an investigation by taking Maya Rai, a Nepali Congress lawmaker, into custody for three days for an investigation into the case
Along with 38 others, Rai, the then joint secretary of the board of directors of the Swarnalaxmi Saving and Credit Cooperative, faces the charge of embezzling around 1.193 billion rupees belonging to 690 depositors.
Despite an arrest warrant from the court, Rai had been evading arrest for long.
