Speaker of the House of Representatives, Devraj Ghimire, has asked the government to respond to several issues raised by lawmakers, including the recent controversy involving the Janamat Party.

During today’s House meeting, Janamat Party members strongly objected to the brief detention of their party’s patron, Resham Chaudhary, by police. The party said there was no clear reason given for his arrest and demanded an official explanation.

Janamat Party lawmaker Abdul Khan said the party would not allow House proceedings to move forward unless the government gives a clear response about Chaudhary’s detention.

In response, Speaker Ghimire urged lawmakers not to block the session and assured them that Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak would address the issue in the House on May 8. The Speaker confirmed that the matter has already been added to the parliamentary agenda.
