At least 15 people, including four children, were killed and dozens wounded after Russia launched its deadliest missile attack on Kyiv since July, Ukrainian officials said. A five-storey residential building in the Darnytskyi district was destroyed, while the EU delegation office and the nearby British Council were also damaged.
European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen condemned the strikes as “another grim reminder” of Moscow’s attempts to terrorize civilians, revealing that two missiles exploded just 50 meters from the EU mission within seconds of each other. She said no diplomatic mission should ever be put at risk.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of “sabotaging hopes of peace,” while EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said the attacks showed a deliberate effort to escalate. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called for tougher sanctions, declaring Russia had chosen “ballistics instead of the negotiating table.”
Both the EU and UK summoned Russian diplomats in Brussels and London over the strikes.
Ukraine reported that Russia fired nearly 600 drones and more than 30 missiles in the overnight barrage—the largest assault on the capital this month. Rescue teams continued to search the rubble of the collapsed apartment block, where several families remain unaccounted for.
Officials confirmed that among the victims were children aged two, 14 and 17, while tens of thousands of homes across the country were left without power following consecutive attacks on energy infrastructure.
