Lawmakers from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) boycotted Wednesday’s House of Representatives meeting after their demand for a high-level investigation into alleged visit visa misuse remained unaddressed.
The two parties have called for a parliamentary or independent probe into reports that some Nepalis used Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s recent visit to Spain as an excuse to enter the country and have not returned, hinting at potential human trafficking.
Earlier in the session, RSP lawmaker Sobita Gautam raised the issue, sparking a strong backlash from CPN-UML lawmakers. Gautam clarified she never said PM Oli's team was involved but referred to individuals who may have exploited the event for their own purpose.
UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula and Whip Sunita Baral accused Gautam of spreading misinformation and using the parliament for publicity. Gautam defended her right to raise the issue, saying her remarks were being misinterpreted.
Meanwhile, both RSP and RPP have stated they will continue to push for a serious inquiry into the matter.
