A lawmaker from the Rastriya Swatantra Party has appealed to all eligible Nepali voters living across the globe to come to Nepal and vote for her party in the upcoming general elections that are about two years away.

Sobhita Gautam, addressing an awareness and party strengthening program in Jiri, Dolakha district, criticized the current ruling coalition for not making arrangements to enable eligible Nepali voters living abroad to cast their votes despite a Supreme Court directive.

At the root of this inaction is the government’s fear that the RSP will get more votes if laws allowing eligible Nepali voters to cast their votes from abroad were to be introduced, Gautam said.

She called all Nepali voters based abroad to launch a campaign to return to Nepal in groups from their current addresses in the run-up to elections to cast their votes, appealing them for a mandate that enables the RSP to introduce laws that allow eligible Nepali voters to cast their votes from abroad.

In a different context, Gautam accused the government of keeping RSP President Rabi Lamichhane behind bars to settle old scores, challenging those claiming about substantive proof of the latter’s involvement in (cooperative fraud) to show evidence.
