The Joint People’s Movement Committee has announced a major public movement demanding the return of the constitutional monarchy and the Sanatan Hindu kingdom along with a multiparty democratic system. The committee shared this through a press release following a youth volunteer gathering.
According to the committee, people from outside Kathmandu have shown increasing support for the movement. In response, they are preparing for a larger national-level gathering and have urged all related parties, organizations and supporters to strengthen their coordination and unity.
Several important decisions were made during the recent meeting. One of the key decisions is the formation of "Joint People’s Movement Committees" in seven active districts. The committee has requested all supporting political parties, organizations and activists to form these district-level committees.
The committee also expressed serious concern over the government’s attempt to bring in laws that limit freedom of thought and expression. They have vowed to strongly oppose such laws and prevent them from being implemented.
A peaceful protest is planned for May 29, and the committee has requested national and international human rights groups to observe and monitor the protest. They also demanded the immediate release of those who have been falsely accused and imprisoned in connection with the Tikapur incident.
Citizens from outside Kathmandu have been called upon to come to the capital and participate in the protest. The committee also urged people from all communities, professions and age groups to support the movement through active participation.
Lastly, the committee appealed to all Nepali citizens, both at home and abroad, to help financially support the movement.
