The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season could resume as early as May 15 or 16, but only if the Indian government approves it. The tournament was put on hold for a week last Friday due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan.

Now that a ceasefire has been agreed upon, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is closely watching the situation. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said they are in touch with all involved, team franchises, sponsors, broadcasters, and state cricket bodies, and will only proceed once the government gives the final go-ahead.

“There are five days left in the suspension period. We’re monitoring the situation and will consult everyone before deciding,” Saikia told. He also made it clear that government approval is key to restarting the league.

Sources say that the BCCI is hopeful the league can resume around mid-May, but it might be played in fewer venues due to logistics and security. The final match could be pushed to a later date.

Since the break, many foreign players have flown back home. Teams have now been asked to contact these players and request them to return to India quickly. It could take four to five days to bring everyone back and restart the matches.

So far, 12 league matches and four playoff games are left to play. If the tournament resumes soon, the BCCI might plan double headers (two matches in one day) to finish the season within May.

Earlier, a match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was canceled due to security concerns. Both teams were awarded points, but it's not yet clear if the game will be replayed.

The BCCI says it will announce the official restart date after completing all necessary consultations and receiving government approval.
