Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has promised to bring big changes in how development work is done in Nepal. Speaking in the House of Representatives, he said it’s time to break the habit of “always working but never finishing.”

He stressed that just starting new projects is not enough. Instead, the government must focus on finishing what has already been started. That’s why old infrastructure projects from previous governments are being reviewed and re-prioritized.

PM Oli said that going forward, every new project will need a clear plan, this includes checking whether the project is practical, how much it will cost, what risks are involved, and if it is legally secure.

“To make the best use of our limited resources, we must plan for results, not just activity,” Oli said. He also announced a new target: major projects under the "national pride" category should be completed by the fiscal year 2082-83 (2025-26).

Projects that seem impossible to complete will be delayed or dropped altogether. Resources will only be used on projects that show real progress.

PM Oli gave an example of how the Prime Minister’s Agriculture Modernization Program is being improved. It now helps farmers with land, tools, loans, insurance, fixed prices and better ways to store and sell crops. He also talked about avoiding wasteful spending by better managing subsidies for things like fertilizers and electricity.

A new plan to support startups and entrepreneurs from the “cycle to market” is also being introduced to help new businesses grow.
