Lawmakers of the National Assembly have stressed the need to focus on good governance for realizing the United Nations sustainable development goals within the deadline.
The lawmakers were speaking at a discussion of the Sustainable Development Sub-committee under the NA’s Development, Economic Affairs and Good Governance Committee, at Singhdurbar on Tuesday.
Addressing the discussion titled ‘Good Practices Adopted by Nepal for the Realization of SDGs’, Kamal Devi Panta, chair of the committee, stressed the need to focus mainly on production, productivity and employment for the realization of SDGs. She said focus should also be on good governance when it comes to realizing SDGs.
Coordinator of the sub-committee, Anjan Shakya, said: The National Planning Commission should make plans by basing good practices of local, provincial and central governments vis-a-vis SDGs.
While making plans in the coming days, there’s a need to connect youths with employment, inculcate entrepreneurship in them, encourage them to strive for research and exploration and help them hone their skills.
Bamdev Gautam, a committee member, called for the implementation of plans that the NPC has already drafted for implementing SDGs.
