Prime Minister Oli Honors Nepali Athletes for International Achievements

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today honored Nepali athletes, coaches, and team managers who won medals in various international sports events. A special ceremony was held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar, organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The event celebrated athletes from different sports who made the country proud.

Among them was Bijay Sinjali, who won a bronze medal at the 3rd Taolu World Cup in Japan in October 2024. He received a cash prize of Rs 6.5 million and a certificate from PM Oli.

Members of the women’s national kabaddi team, including Manmati Bishta, who won bronze at the 6th Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship in Iran, received Rs 150,000 each.

The under-20 men’s volleyball team, led by Arjun Nepali, was also rewarded for winning a silver medal at the CAVA U-20 Men’s Volleyball Championship held in Sri Lanka in October 2024. Each player got Rs 300,000 in cash.

PM Oli also congratulated the Nepali U-16 cricket team for winning the title at the ACC U-16 East Zone Cup in Malaysia after defeating Singapore. He praised their hard work and welcomed them warmly.

In his speech, the Prime Minister said the government is now giving more importance to sports. “Nepal is still in the early stages of building a strong sports system, but with discipline and hard work, we can achieve great success,” he said. “I thank all the athletes, coaches, and team managers for making the country proud.”

Youth and Sports Minister Tejulal Chaudhary also spoke at the event. He shared that the budget for sports will almost double in the next fiscal year. He also said that the international cricket stadium being built in Kirtipur is nearly finished, which is a big step forward for sports in Nepal.
