President Ram Chandra Paudel officially launched the National Land Cover Map 2020–2022 on Tuesday during a ceremony at the Office of the President in Shital Niwas.

The map was created by the Forest Research and Training Centre, which is part of the Ministry of Forests and Environment. Dr. Rajendra KC, the Centre’s Director, handed the map over to President Paudel.

At the event, President Paudel said that protecting forests should not just be something written in reports, but something done in real life. He emphasized the need to find a balance between using forests for economic benefit and protecting them.

The new map shows that forests now cover 46.08% of Nepal’s land. Among all provinces, Bagmati Province has the most forest cover, with 58.62% of its land classified as forest.
