The Nepal Police Headquarters has instructed police in-charges deployed in Kathmandu during the Gen Z movement on September 8 and 9 (Bhadra 23–24) not to leave the Kathmandu Valley.
The directive was issued to the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Ranipokhari, following a request from the investigation commission formed to probe the police crackdown and subsequent arson incidents during the protests.
According to officials, the commission may summon the concerned officers for questioning at any time. The police headquarters in Naxal has been formally notified to ensure their availability.
The inquiry commission began its investigation on Sunday, starting with an interrogation of the warden of Nakkhu Prison.
The Gen Z protests had turned violent on September 8, when police opened fire, resulting in 22 deaths. Widespread demonstrations and arson followed across the country in the following days.
