Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced that he will embark on a five-day official visit to China starting August 30, expressing optimism that the trip will bring long-term benefits for Nepal.
Briefing the House of Representatives on Friday, Oli said Nepal has been steadily increasing its engagement with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the world’s largest regional alliance, and could secure important opportunities through deeper participation.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Han Zheng, and other global leaders attending the summit. He will attend the SCO opening ceremony on September 1, and on September 3 join an event hosted by the Chinese government to commemorate its victory in the global war against fascism and Japan. The gathering is expected to draw representatives from over 50 nations.
“Our delegation will represent Nepal in a way that strengthens our international image and national interest,” Oli told lawmakers.
The invitation for the visit was extended by President Xi Jinping, with the main focus on Nepal’s participation in the SCO summit in Tianjin.
