Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, chairperson of the main opposition CPN (Maoist Centre), has claimed that he personally raised the Nepal–India border dispute during his tenure as Prime Minister.

Speaking at a Province Committee Secretariat meeting in Biratnagar, Koshi Province, Prachanda said he had discussed the Kalapani and Lipulekh issues seriously with the Indian side. “It was my government that made Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi publicly state that the Nepal–India border dispute should be resolved through dialogue,” he added.

Prachanda urged the current government to continue the formal efforts initiated during his premiership to resolve sensitive border matters. He also emphasized that party cadres should inform the public about the positive steps taken under his leadership, warning that failing to do so could allow distortions to spread.

He further highlighted the need for internal criticism and self-review, noting that ideological confusion and indiscipline were creating challenges within the party. Prachanda also mentioned that provincial leaders’ concerns were taken seriously, and the party might face major challenges ahead.
