The Federal Enablement and National Concerns Committee of the National Assembly has directed the government to estimate risks and start preparations before the monsoon season.
The committee chairperson, Sonam Geljen Sherpa, said in today’s meeting that the government should effectively implement policies and plans related to risk assessment and disaster management. Members of parliament emphasized the need to prepare for disaster risk reduction before the monsoon begins.
At the meeting, Dinesh Prasad Bhatt, cexecutive Chief of the National Risk Reduction and Management Authority, said this year’s rainfall is expected to be above average. He urged all three levels of government to work together on disaster response and preparation.
He also informed that Nepal experienced 8,441 monsoon-related incidents in the past 10 years.
