Madhesh Province’s Minister for Home, Communications and Law, Fakira Mahato, has personally taken to the streets to clear footpaths in Janakpurdham.

In coordination with Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City, the Janakpur Chamber of Commerce, Dhanusha Police, and the District Traffic Police Office, Minister Mahato began clearing the streets early Wednesday morning.

As part of the Madhesh Province government’s effort to develop Janakpurdham as a tourist city, he said the campaign aims to promote cleanliness and beautification. In the first phase, the focus is on clearing areas around temples and religious sites, requesting street vendors to relocate.

Mahato stated that change cannot be achieved alone and urged local residents, business owners, and civil society to work together for the transformation of Janakpurdham.

On the first day, he appealed to vendors with folded hands to cooperate in making the city clean and organized. He also warned that from the following day, any vendor found obstructing footpaths would have their goods confiscated and handed over to the sub-metropolitan office.

Meanwhile, Janakpur Chamber of Commerce President Surendra Bhandari said arrangements have been made for vendors to operate at Barah Bigha ground. He added that vendors can set up stalls there until further decisions are made collectively.
