CPN-UML Chair and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that a video circulated during the Gen Z protests—showing cash being burned at the residence of then Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba and other leaders—was fake and made using artificial intelligence (AI).
Speaking to a voter during a door-to-door election campaign in Jhapa on Saturday, Oli claimed the video and photos were created abroad to spread misinformation. He urged people not to believe everything they see on social media.
When asked why he stayed silent despite saying he had a zero-tolerance policy on corruption, Oli said he cannot guarantee that every leader is honest. He added that he would take action only if corruption is proven.
Oli also promised to take strong action against corruption if he becomes prime minister again. However, some voters expressed dissatisfaction and demanded a fair and independent investigation into the corruption allegations.
