Bishwo Poudel, economist and former vice-chair of the National Planning Commission, has assumed office as the 18th Governor. During a ceremony held at the Nepal Rastra Bank's head office in Baluwatar today, he said that the central bank will work in line with the government's financial policies while maintaining its independence.

He explained that the monetary policy will support the government's financial plans. “Our job is also to regulate and supervise financial institutions. Instead of making too many strict rules, we should focus on improving supervision,” he said. He added that the capacity of the central bank needs to be strengthened for this.

Poudel added that the bank will give priority to protecting the public’s deposits and improving loan policies in banks and financial institutions.

He mentioned that NRB will coordinate with different relevant agencies before making important decisions. On his first day in office, Governor Paudel signed a decision related to printing new banknotes of 500 and 1,000 denominations.
