Newly appointed Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Manoj Silwal, has pledged to move ahead with the government’s decision to recover arrears from dedicated trunk line users.
Assuming office on Tuesday, Silwal said the Ministry of Energy had already decided on the collection process, and the NEA would now execute it after reviewing past decisions. He also outlined his priorities, which include strengthening NEA’s internal capacity and ensuring reliable, round-the-clock electricity supply.
At a welcome program organized by NEA staff, Silwal expressed confidence that coordination would be smoother with his predecessor now serving as Minister for Energy. This, he said, provides an opportunity to advance reforms.
Acknowledging that his appointment was a political one, Silwal stressed he was determined to leave behind a legacy of results, not mere appearances. “I have not come here for photo opportunities, but to deliver tangible changes,” he said.
Silwal replaces Hitendra Dev Shakya, who was recently transferred to the Water and Energy Commission.
