Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, one of the key accused in the fake Bhutanese refugee scam, has returned to prison two weeks after escaping during the Gen-Z protests on September 9 (24 Bhadra).
According to prison authorities, Rayamajhi reported back to Sundhara prison on Tuesday. He was among the 3,300 inmates who fled from Sundhara alone, while more than 14,000 prisoners escaped from jails across the country during the unrest. Nearly half of them have since returned.
Rayamajhi faces trial for his alleged role in creating fake Bhutanese refugee documents to send Nepali citizens to the United States. Following Kathmandu District Court’s order, he was being held in judicial custody.
Along with him, former secretary Tek Narayan Pandey, also accused in the same case, had escaped from Sundhara prison, but unlike Rayamajhi, Pandey has not yet returned.
