Nepali Judo Team Departs for South Asian Youth Championship

An eleven-member Nepali team, including six young judokas, has departed for Bhutan to compete in the first South Asian Youth Judo Championship featuring teams from four countries.

An 11-member Nepali team, including six players, departed for Thimphu, Bhutan, on Tuesday to participate in the first South Asian Youth Judo Development Championship and training camp. The event is scheduled to take place from May 7 to 12.

The team includes four male and two female players from the Multi-Purpose Martial Arts Center. In the men’s category, Bisaj Maharjan and Sadin Tamang will compete in the under-40 kg group, Juvin Maharjan in the under-50 kg  group, and Saiman Tamang in the under-36 kg group. In the women’s category, Shrasta Napit will participate in the under-57 kg group, while Jenisha Waiba will compete in the under-37 kg group.

The team officials include coach Yogendra Bista, official Nabin Maharjan, IT officials Lakhanraj Thapa Magar and Kulbahadur Kunwar, and referee Kiran Gadel.

The team was officially sent off by National Sports Council Vice-president Dhruba Acharya and Nepal Judo Association President Deepakharsha Bajracharya. On the occasion, Vice-president Acharya wished the players success and encouraged them to bring home medals. Head coach Dharma Kumar Shrestha informed that teams from Nepal, India, Bhutan and Bangladesh will participate in the event.
