The Nepal Teachers' Federation (NTF) has given the government until August 6 to pass the School Education Bill. Speaking at a press conference on Friday, the federation said it will launch a stronger protest than before if the bill is not passed by the deadline. The nature and schedule of the protest will be announced later.

NTF representatives said the government has not shown seriousness in fulfilling the agreement made on April 29. They claimed that the government had committed to passing the bill through the House of Representatives by June 29. However, that deadline has already passed, and instead of taking responsibility, the government is now placing the blame on teachers.

The federation stated that it would have no other option but to resume protests if the bill is not passed in time. It criticized the government for delaying the bill in the Education Committee and portraying teachers as the reason for the delay, which the NTF described as unfair and misleading.

The agreement included commitments such as making temporary teachers permanent, resolving promotion issues for permanent teachers, handling disciplinary actions fairly, addressing the concerns of school staff, clarifying the status of Early Childhood Development (ECD) teachers, and ensuring trade union rights. The NTF accused the government of failing to act on these issues and said it appears to be going against its own commitments.

The federation concluded that the government’s lack of seriousness in implementing the written agreement has left it with no alternative but to prepare for fresh protests.
