The Lumbini–Nepal Mini Marathon will be held in Thailand in May 2026 to celebrate Buddha Jayanti. The marathon aims to promote Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha, to the world.

According to the Embassy of Nepal in Thailand, the marathon will take place in the third week of May and will include 10-kilometer and 5-kilometer races. The event is intended to showcase Nepal’s cultural and spiritual importance and strengthen ties between Nepal and Thailand.

On Sunday, the Embassy organized a meeting in Bangkok with key stakeholders to plan the event. Attendees included representatives from Nepal Airlines, the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Thailand, the People of Nepali Origin Association, the Thai–Nepal Association, the Thai–Nepal Friendship Association, Nepali professionals in UN organizations, and Nepali and Thai businesspeople.

The meeting also decided to create a Mini Marathon Organizing Committee with members from organizations that promote friendship between Nepal and Thailand.

The Embassy said the marathon will help promote Nepal’s tourism, food, culture, export products, and especially Lumbini as the sacred birthplace of Lord Buddha.
