Nepal Oil Corporation has decided to sell half-filled LPG cylinders to better manage the supply of cooking gas.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the corporation said that, considering the current situation, starting from Falgun 29, 2082, each LPG cylinder will be filled with 7.1 kg of gas and sold at half the price, Rs 955 per cylinder, until further notice.
The corporation stated that the decision was taken to manage supply and distribution effectively and ensure that consumers can access LPG according to demand.
According to the corporation, LPG has been imported and distributed regularly as per demand. However, in the past two to three months, demand for gas has significantly increased in the Kathmandu Valley. The ongoing conflict in the Middle East has also affected the global supply of petroleum products and LPG.
Reports of gas shortages among general consumers in India, which supplies LPG to Nepal, have also led to panic buying and hoarding in Nepal.
Corporation spokesperson Manoj Thakur urged consumers to purchase LPG only as needed.
