Nepal suffered a nine-wicket defeat to West Indies in the T20 World Cup, currently being held in India and Sri Lanka. With this win, West Indies secured their place in the Super Eight stage.
Defeating Nepal by nine wickets, West Indies registered their third consecutive victory, collecting six points from Group ‘C’ and advancing to the Super Eight with one match to spare. Meanwhile, Nepal, having lost three matches in a row, has been eliminated from the Super Eight race with one game remaining.
Nepal had earlier lost their first match to England by four runs and suffered a 10-wicket defeat against Italy in the second match. West Indies had defeated Scotland by 35 runs in their opening game and England by 30 runs in their second match.
Chasing a target of 134 runs, West Indies reached the total in 15.2 overs, losing just one wicket. Captain Shai Hope played a half-century innings, remaining unbeaten on 61 runs off 44 balls. Shimron Hetmyer also remained not out on 46, while Brandon King contributed 22 runs.
For Nepal, Nandan Yadav claimed the only wicket.
Earlier at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Nepal batted first after losing the toss and scored 133 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs.
Dipendra Singh Airee scored a half-century, becoming the second Nepali player to hit a fifty in a T20 World Cup after Subash Khakurel, who achieved the feat in 2014. Dipendra made 58 runs off 47 balls before being dismissed. Sompal Kami remained unbeaten on 26. Lokesh Bam scored 13, Asif Sheikh 11, Rohit Paudel 5, Arif Sheikh 2, Kushal Bhurtel 1, and Gulshan Jha 11 runs.
For West Indies, Jason Holder took four wickets, while Akeal Hosein, Matthew Forde, Samer Joseph, and Roston Chase claimed one wicket each.
