The Nepal Congress has expelled Bikram Khanal, the Lumbini Province General Secretary, from the party for one year.
The party's Central Disciplinary Committee took the decision in a meeting held on Asar 17 (July 1), citing that Khanal failed to support the party’s official candidates in both the provincial and federal elections in Nawalparasi.
Committee coordinator Anand Prasad Dhungana said a formal letter of expulsion has been sent to party president Sher Bahadur Deuba as well as the concerned province and district offices.
According to Dhungana, Khanal was asked for a clarification after complaints were filed against him, but his response was not satisfactory. Based on the available evidence, the committee decided to expel him under Clause 34 (1) (a), (b), and (c), and Sub-clause (d) of the Nepali Congress statute (amended version 2027 BS).
Khanal’s removal means he will lose his party membership for a full year.
