The newly elected President of the Nepali Congress (NC), Gagan Thapa, has called on all party members to work together in a united and organized way.

In a press statement issued Friday evening, following the Election Commission’s recognition of the leadership elected at the party’s recent Second Special General Convention (SGC), Thapa thanked the Election Commission for its decision. He said the SGC was conducted according to the Constitution, existing laws, and the party’s statute, and was not a matter of dispute.

Thapa emphasized that the NC works for its members, not just for a few leaders. He said the party has now returned to its roots, values, and principles. He appealed to all members those who participated in the SGC, those who did not, and members at all levels both inside and outside the country to see this development as a step to strengthen the rule of law, not as a win or loss for anyone.

He urged members to remain calm, united, and responsible to maintain trust and confidence. “The NC is starting a new journey with renewed energy, unity, and reform. Ahead of the March 5 elections, we must prepare carefully and act together,” he said.

Thapa expressed confidence that former NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba and other leaders would support the party’s democratic process. He promised an end to factions and emphasized that all members, from grassroots to central leaders, have equal status. “The NC does not belong to any single leader; it belongs to the people,” he said.

The NC president added that the SGC reviewed the party’s past mistakes and committed to strengthening its achievements. He said the party will work to meet the expectations of the Nepali people and the aspirations of the new generation. Thapa vowed to make the NC a democratic, people-focused party that upholds its values and principles. “Unnatural alliances for the sake of power will end,” he added.
