The Nepali Congress (NC) is holding a Central Working Committee meeting today at 11:00 am at the party’s central office in Sanepa. The meeting will discuss recent political and organizational issues. Office-bearers, central committee members, and presidents of all seven provincial committees have been asked to attend, according to Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel.

Meanwhile, the closed session of the party’s special general convention, being held at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu on January 11 and 12, is continuing today.

Party leader and Publicity Committee coordinator Subash Pokharel said that 63 percent of delegates have so far shown support for the special convention. On the opening day, 62 percent of delegates were registered. By Monday, participation increased to about 66 percent, with Madhesh Province recording the highest turnout.

General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma need support from two-thirds of the delegates to dissolve the current Central Working Committee led by Sher Bahadur Deuba. Deuba’s side says the committee cannot be dissolved without that number.

During discussions at the convention, many delegates suggested dissolving the current committee to restructure and reform the party.
