Under growing pressure due to the second special convention, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has agreed to hold talks with General Secretaries Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma.

After holding several discussions on Monday with close party leaders, central members, and legal advisors, Deuba decided to move forward with talks. Congress publicity chief Meen Bishwakarma confirmed that Deuba informed the party about his decision to meet the general secretaries.

The discussions with the institutional group were held at Deuba’s residence in Maharajgunj on Monday afternoon. After the long meeting, Bishwakarma said that Deuba wants to solve the current problems through dialogue. However, it is still unclear whether Deuba will visit the special convention venue or if the general secretaries will come to Maharajgunj for the talks.

A member of the party’s Executive Committee said that arrangements have also been made for Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka to take part in the discussions.

The meeting at Maharajgunj concluded that both Deuba and Khadka will meet the general secretaries to find a common solution. Meanwhile, senior leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala also met with Deuba and the general secretaries on Monday afternoon. He played a calming role to prevent the situation from turning into a party crisis. Koirala once again said that he is fully committed to protecting party unity and is ready to make any sacrifice for it.
