The scheduled meeting of the Education, Health, and Technology Committee in the House of Representatives, meant to pass the School Education Bill has been postponed indefinitely.

The meeting, which had been repeatedly delayed throughout the day, was ultimately called off after Education Minister Raghuraj Pant proposed holding the bill for a few more days, stating that no consensus had been reached with concerned stakeholders.

Though some committee members strongly objected to the delay, Committee Chair Amar Bahadur Thapa finally declared that the next meeting would be announced later, officially postponing today’s session.

During the meeting, Minister Pant remarked that if the government itself is not willing to move the bill forward, then the committee cannot unilaterally pass it and send it for approval.

Earlier, the Teachers’ Federation had given the government until Asar 15 (June 29) to finalize the bill. In response, federation leaders had reached an understanding with the ruling party UML’s chief whip in accordance with that timeline.
