Dhangadhi, the temporary capital of Sudurpashchim Province, recorded 200mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours, marking the heaviest downpour of the monsoon season so far.
According to officials from the Mahakali Basin Office in Attaria, the rain started on Sunday afternoon, but heavy showers began around 4 AM on Monday. Rainfall is expected to slow down by Monday night.
Other nearby areas also received significant rainfall. Belauri in Kanchanpur recorded 264.6mm of rain, while Krishnapur Khallakot got 184mm.
All nine districts in Sudurpashchim Province are currently experiencing light to moderate rain. The rain is expected to continue throughout the week, which may raise the water levels in rivers, especially the Doda River.
Officials have warned that the rising water in the Mohana River could pose a threat to nearby settlements if heavy rain continues. Residents in low-lying areas are advised to stay alert.
