Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, speaking at the closing session of the Civil Society Forum in Spain, has called for urgent reforms in the global financial system to support sustainable development. He was addressing the event as the chief guest during his official visit to participate in the United Nations’ Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development.
Oli highlighted that developing countries like Nepal must meet their commitments to attract financial investment. He also underlined the importance of development aid, responsible debt management, and a fair global financial structure. Civil society, he said, must continue to raise its voice on these critical issues.
“You are not just attendees of this conference – you are the driving force for change,” Oli said. “Your advocacy can help create real, visible progress. Nepal is committed to good governance, rule of law, and democratic values, and we are moving steadily toward development and prosperity. We believe global investments should be inclusive, need-based, and proportionate.”
He also expressed appreciation for the global partnership and involvement of civil society in shaping a more equal and sustainable future, where no one is left behind.
In a session that also included Spain’s Deputy Prime Minister Carmen Calvo Poyato, Oli stressed the shared responsibility of all sectors – including the private sector – to create decent jobs and promote inclusive growth. The declaration passed by the Civil Society Forum will be formally acknowledged by the main UN conference.
