Despite a clear agreement with the government to pass the School Education Bill by Asar 15 (June 29), the Nepal Teachers Federation has expressed serious concern after no action was taken.

In a joint statement, Federation President Laxmi Kishor Subedi and General Secretary Tul Bahadur Thapa warned that if the bill continues to be delayed or any hidden political tricks are played, they will have no choice but to launch another phase of protests.

Earlier this year, after a 29-day long street movement centered in Kathmandu, the government and the teachers' union had reached a formal agreement on Baisakh 17 (April 30). The government had then committed to passing the bill from the House of Representatives by the end of Asar 15.

But now that the agreed deadline has passed without the bill even being presented in Parliament, teachers and school staff across the country feel ignored and betrayed. Their growing frustration and suspicion toward the government's intentions could lead to a renewed wave of protests in the education sector.

The Federation has urged the government to act quickly and responsibly to avoid further unrest.
