Madhes Province Chief Minister Jitendra Sonal has resigned from his post after realizing he would not be able to secure a vote of confidence.
Sonal submitted his resignation to the Speaker during the provincial assembly meeting held earlier today. The session had been called to conduct a confidence vote.
Although the meeting was initially postponed for ten minutes, it could not resume even after an hour and a half. Observing the lack of support from lawmakers, Sonal decided to step down before the voting could take place.
His resignation has brought political uncertainty to Madhes Province as parties begin discussions on forming a new government.
