Insurance companies in Nepal have received claims worth Rs 3.78 billion for the damages caused by the October 3–5 floods and landslides, according to the Nepal Insurance Authority.

A total of 434 claims have been filed, including 382 property, 92 engineering, 209 agriculture, and 47 motor insurance cases. Most claims came from Sunsari, Morang, Kathmandu, Ilam, Parsa, Jhapa, and Rautahat districts.

Officials said that disasters are becoming more frequent, leading to a rise in insurance claims. Earlier, the September protests caused claims of Rs 23.23 billion, while June floods led to Rs 985.9 million in claims.

At present, 14 general insurance and 4 microinsurance companies are processing the compensation requests.
