In a special session of the House of Representatives, several lawmakers raised concerns over Nepal’s economy, education and infrastructure.
Lawmaker Pashupati Shumser JB Rana emphasized the urgent need to boost electricity generation for the growth of the national economy. He said Nepal’s current revenue is not even enough to cover its basic expenses, and the country depends heavily on remittances. Rana urged the government to attract both local and international investors for power generation and increase electricity exports. He also called for removing legal hurdles that discourage investment.
Other lawmakers also voiced their concerns. Metmani Chaudhary and Birendra Prasad Mahato asked the government to implement its agreements with school teachers while Ram Prakash Chaudhary requested budget allocation to build a bridge linking Janakpur and Birgunj.
Prem Suwal expressed worry over the government's act of signing agreements with teachers without planning for the financial impact. He urged the government to be cautious and also spoke about the need to support victims of cooperative-related issues.
