Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has instructed authorities to provide quick support to families affected by a recent landslide in Tilgaun of Namkha rural municipality-6, Humla.

At a meeting held on Monday at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Minister Lekhak ordered officials to send emergency relief materials such as tarpaulins for shelter and food supplies. He also asked for the materials to be delivered by helicopter due to the remoteness of the area. In addition, a technical team will be sent to the site to assess the damage.

The minister stressed the need for immediate arrangements for food and shelter for the displaced and instructed the team to prepare a detailed on-site report. He also told concerned agencies to coordinate with the Karnali provincial government for effective disaster response.

The landslide, caused by a glacial lake outburst flood, has displaced 32 people so far.

During the meeting, Minister Lekhak also asked all government bodies to start early preparations for the upcoming monsoon season. He directed the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) to hold talks with security committees in all 77 districts and seven provinces to ensure disaster preparedness.

He also emphasized the need to work together with private organizations and use their resources and skills for disaster response.

Meanwhile, Forest and Environment Minister Ain Bahadur Shahi also spoke at the meeting, urging authorities to speed up relief distribution. He warned that Himalayan areas are facing growing risks due to climate change.
