Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak said the arson and violence in Tinkune, Kathmandu, on March 28 was a criminal act and not related to any religion or faith.
Speaking in the House of Representatives in response to questions from members of parliament Prem Suwal, Nisha Dangi and Sobita Gautam, he said promoting monarchy during the incident goes against Nepal's Constitution. He stressed that violence cannot be justified in the name of religion.
He informed lawmakers that those involved have been arrested and are under investigation. He said anyone breaking the law, no matter who they are, will face legal action.
The minister added that the government is staying alert to stop such incidents from happening again. He said the organizers must take responsibility for the violence.
The government is providing free treatment to the injured, and two people are still in the hospital, he said.
